Police in the Eastern Region have launched investigations into reports that women were allegedly abducted and physically abused at a gated residential facility in Koforidua.

The case follows concerns raised by residents around the CMB Workshop area, who claim they repeatedly heard cries and unusual noises believed to be coming from women inside the premises, particularly during the evenings.

According to reports, the facility is occupied by about 18 African nationals said to be involved in network marketing. Residents allege that some women were taken into the self-contained building and subjected to physical abuse.

The residents reportedly brought the matter to the attention of the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Isaac Adongo, who subsequently alerted the police.

Police are said to have arrested the individuals following the report. However, residents have expressed concern over claims that the suspects and the women were later returned to the same premises because of a shortage of space in police cells.

The alleged return has heightened anxiety among community members, who fear for the safety of the women and are calling for a thorough investigation into the activities taking place at the facility.

Residents are also urging authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents and ensure that anyone found culpable is dealt with according to the law.

The identities and nationalities of those involved have not been independently established, and the allegations remain under investigation.

The case has renewed calls for prompt responses to reports of possible abuse and for measures to protect individuals who may be at risk while investigations are underway.
