Chiefs and elders of the Adansi Traditional Council have performed libation and cleansing rituals at Obuasi Senior High Technical School following allegations of sexual abuse involving the headmaster and the discovery of a foetus on the school grounds.
The traditional authorities said the rituals were intended to address spiritual and communal concerns surrounding the incidents, which have heightened tensions in the school and the wider community.
According to the chiefs who led the ceremony, the incidents had cast a cloud of doom over the Adansi land, prompting the need for cleansing.
They prayed for an end to sickness, curses and misfortune they believe have befallen the area following the alleged actions of the headmaster.
The concerns stem partly from allegations by 19 students that they were sexually abused by the headmaster, as well as the discovery of a male foetus on the school compound.
The foetus was discovered on August 5, 2026, after some students reportedly raised an alarm upon seeing the headmaster emerging from a location on the school grounds with a cutlass. The site was subsequently examined, leading to the exhumation of the foetus.
Police later transported the body to the Obuasi Government Hospital for preservation as investigations continued.
The discovery and the allegations against the headmaster sparked unrest at the school in August, raising concerns about student safety and the welfare of the school community.
