Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, senior aide to former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that some inmates attempted to poison the politician while he was in custody.

Dr Boakye-Danquah said Wontumi informed him of the alleged incident when he appeared in court on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He added that prison authorities had initiated investigations into the matter.

Speaking to Citi FM as Wontumi marked 100 days in prison, Dr Boakye-Danquah said the allegation had not been verified.

“Chairman is okay. We haven’t received any medical reports from the doctors. But I have received indications that over the past week, some prison inmates attempted to poison him,” he said.

He explained that efforts were underway to establish whether the alleged incident occurred.

“And so I’ve been informed that there are some investigations that are ongoing to make sure that they verify the truth or otherwise of that,” he added.

Dr Boakye-Danquah said he had also spoken with the prison commander, who assured him that the matter was being investigated and that he would provide an update.

“He mentioned that to me today when he came to court, and I have spoken to the commander, and the commander said he has asked them to investigate the matter, so he will come back to me on that issue. This attempted poisoning of his life happened a few days ago,” he said.

The spokesperson stressed that he had not received any medical report relating to the alleged poisoning.

The circumstances surrounding the claim remain unclear, and the allegation has not been independently verified.
