The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked Multimedia Group to provide details of alleged discrepancies in payments made to Ghanaian evacuees who returned from South Africa.
In a letter dated October 26, 2026, and signed by Chief Director Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Minister, the Ministry requested information to help investigate claims made by Isaac Kofi Agyei, identified as Multimedia Group’s Head of Research.
Mr Agyei reportedly made the claims during Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 24, alleging that some evacuees had not received the full allowances announced by the government.
According to the letter, Mr Agyei said three evacuees received only GH¢2,000 instead of the combined GH¢5,500 reintegration and transportation package.
He also alleged that about 40 evacuees received the GH¢5,000 reintegration allowance but had not been paid the additional GH¢500 transportation allowance.
The claims further included allegations that some payments were made without recipients signing acknowledgement records, although their names were later linked to signatures in the Ministry’s records.
The Ministry described the allegations as serious, saying they raised questions about the integrity of the disbursement process and could affect the reputation of the institution and officers responsible for administering the payments.
It maintained that the allowances had been publicly announced before the evacuation exercise and that it had not received any complaints from evacuees about payment shortfalls.
The Ministry also questioned why the allegations had emerged about five months after the exercise began and said Multimedia Group had not contacted it to verify the claims.
It has therefore requested the names and contact details of the three evacuees allegedly paid GH¢2,000, the approximately 40 people said to have missed the GH¢500 transportation allowance, and details of those whose payment records allegedly contained signatures they did not provide.
The Ministry said the information would allow it to contact the individuals concerned, examine payment records and investigate the claims based on verifiable evidence. It also requested any supporting information held by the media organisation.
