The father of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot near a school in the Bronx, New York, has spoken of his grief, saying his son had complained about being bullied before his death.
Thomas Frimpong said he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of his son, who moved from Ghana to the United States about a year ago to live with him.
Javits was shot in the abdomen while walking near a school in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx on Thursday, October 29, 2026. He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Speaking about the tragedy, his father insisted that his son did not deserve such an end and recalled that the teenager had previously told him about difficulties with other students.
According to Thomas, Javits had complained that he was being bullied during lunch breaks. He also said the school principal had informed him that two students connected to an earlier confrontation with his son had been suspended.
The father is now seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether the earlier complaints were adequately addressed.
Police are searching for three teenage suspects believed to have been involved in the attack. The suspects were reportedly wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks.
Authorities have not confirmed a motive for the shooting or established a link between the reported bullying and the fatal incident. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.
The teenager’s death has left his family devastated, with his father appealing for anyone with information about the shooting to assist investigators.
The New York Police Department continues to investigate the case as the family mourns the loss of a young life.
