NDC operative James Agbey has called for an investigation into NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye’s claim that drug traffickers have established clandestine laboratories in Ghana.
Nana Boakye made the allegation at an NPP press conference on September 22, following recent seizures of Ghana-linked drug consignments overseas.
Agbey said Nana Boakye should provide security agencies with evidence to support the claim and assist with investigations.
“Nana Boakye's claim that drug traffickers have established clandestine bases and laboratories in Ghana for processing illicit drugs for export must not be allowed to go away without scrutiny and investigation,” he said.
He questioned when and where the alleged laboratories were established, who built them, and whether Nana Boakye knew about them while the NPP was in government.
“And were those laboratories operating when the NPP was in government?” he asked.
Agbey also called for Nana Boakye’s claims of possible government complicity to be referred to the police and other relevant security agencies.
“If you’re going to peddle untruths regarding drug traffickers and government complicity, at least have the gut and decency to take your evidence to the police for official enquiry,” he said.
He said a thorough investigation was needed to establish the facts and urged security agencies to prevent the drug-trafficking debate from creating unnecessary fear and panic.
