The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled November 1 to 10, 2026, for prospective parliamentary candidates, including sitting Members of Parliament, to formally declare their intention to contest the party’s primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced the timeline at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, describing the declaration of interest as the first stage in the candidate selection process.
He explained that the party would assess prospective aspirants to determine whether they meet the requirements under the NPP constitution and the laws of Ghana.
“Our prospective parliamentary candidates will be checked on whether or not, per our constitution, they indeed qualify to stand as or to be nominated as a parliamentary candidate for our party,” he said.
Interested members are expected to register through the party’s online portal, PPC.nppghana.org, and pay a declaration fee of GH¢2,000, according to MyJoyOnline.
Kodua Frimpong stressed that declaring an intention to contest does not amount to formal nomination or give aspirants permission to begin campaigning in their constituencies.
“The party wants to reiterate that declaration of intent does not mean that a person has the right to go around and campaign in various constituencies. We have still not opened nominations,” he stated.
The party has maintained its earlier directive suspending campaign activities by prospective parliamentary candidates, their agents and supporters until the official process allows them to resume.
As part of preparations, the NPP will also conduct a zoning exercise from November 1 to December 4, 2026. Capacity-building workshops are expected to follow for aspirants across the Northern, Middle and Southern zones in December.
