The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed reports of an impending reshuffle of its parliamentary leadership, insisting that it has no plans to replace Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said no meeting had been held and no deliberations had taken place regarding changes to the leadership of the Minority Caucus.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Kodua Frimpong accused individuals circulating the reports of attempting to create confusion within the party’s parliamentary ranks.
“Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he said.
He added that the party remained satisfied with the current leadership and would continue to support the caucus in carrying out its parliamentary responsibilities.
The General Secretary also addressed discussions surrounding potential running mates for the NPP’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He cautioned party members against using social media campaigns and bloggers to promote themselves for the position, arguing that such an approach was inconsistent with the party’s constitution.
According to him, the constitution does not provide for a competitive contest or public campaign to select a running mate. Instead, the decision rests with the party’s flagbearer in consultation with the National Council.
“There is nowhere in our constitution which says that the running mate is selected through a contest or through a campaign; so the people who are busily urging bloggers to promote themselves, you are wrong,” he stated.
