The interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested as police investigate allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak disclosed the arrest when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
He said the case had been transferred from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigation after he directed that it be handled at the national level.
According to the minister, the matter came to his attention on September 7, when a report was submitted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Muntaka said investigators had reportedly recovered semen from a dress belonging to one of the alleged victims and were pursuing the legal steps required to obtain a DNA sample from Abdulai for testing.
He explained that police needed court authorisation to collect the sample, adding that the process was underway.
“One, we’ve been able to get one of the ladies, about semen, and we’re getting DNA, but the laws of our country need to be respected. So what is happening is that this man has been arrested, his statement has been taken, he’s going through the due process,” the minister said.
Muntaka stressed that Abdulai had given a statement to the police and that the investigation would proceed in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, Abdulai has said he intends to pursue all lawful avenues to clear his name. He expressed hope that after the matter is resolved, he would return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Abdulai, who served as the NDC Secretary for the Juaben Constituency, has resigned from the position and withdrawn his candidature for the constituency chairmanship election.
