The interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, says he will pursue all lawful means to clear his name as investigations continue into sexual misconduct allegations involving female students.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Mr Abdulai thanked friends, relatives and well-wishers for their support amid the controversy, stressing that his immediate priority was to defend his position.
“I intend to devote my attention and resources to pursuing all lawful avenues to clear my name and vindicate my position,” he said.
The headmaster’s comments come after the Ministry of Education referred the allegations to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for investigation. The allegations reportedly involve more than 14 female students.
Mr Abdulai was interdicted following the emergence of the allegations, which have triggered public concern about student safety and accountability within educational institutions.
The case has also had political implications for the headmaster. He recently resigned as secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Juaben Constituency and withdrew his candidature for the constituency chairmanship.
In explaining his decision, Mr Abdulai said he wanted to concentrate his attention and resources on addressing the matter. He expressed hope that he could return to active political engagement once the issues had been resolved.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the NDC’s ideals and aspirations.
