President John Dramani Mahama will today, Monday, September 21, bring together world leaders and international development partners in New York for a high-level meeting on Ghana’s Accra Reset initiative.
The meeting, being held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, will focus on the theme “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
The Presidency says the gathering will provide an opportunity to review progress made since the Accra Reset was launched and discuss renewed commitments on global development.
A key part of the programme will be the launch of a report prepared by a high-level panel established by the Accra Reset Presidential Council.
Among the international figures expected to address the meeting are Kenyan President William Ruto, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla are also scheduled to participate.
Representatives of the World Health Organisation, Group of 77, Commonwealth and OECD, as well as delegates from China, France and the United Kingdom, are expected at the event. Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote is also listed among the participants.
The event is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Ghana time and will be broadcast live.
The Accra Reset meeting is one of several engagements on President Mahama’s UN General Assembly itinerary. He is also scheduled to host a high-level event on reparatory justice on September 23 and deliver Ghana’s national statement on September 24.
