The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced the arrest of a Syrian national at an airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after he allegedly arrived from Accra with about 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rafic Hariri International Airport. The suspected drugs were concealed in two pieces of luggage, according to a statement issued by NACOC on Sunday, November 1.

The Commission said the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.

The joint exercise was designed to identify and apprehend suspects at both ends of the drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to help dismantle the wider international trafficking network.

NACOC said it was working to arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices in Ghana as investigations continued.

The Commission described the operation as evidence of the cooperation between Ghana and Lebanon in sharing intelligence and disrupting international drug trafficking networks.
