Contractors working on the Kumasi Kejetia Redevelopment Project Phase II are expected to return to the site in October 2026 as the government steps up efforts to complete the stalled project.
Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi disclosed this on Sunday, September 20, during a stakeholder meeting at the project site.
He said arrangements were being made with the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders to allow work to resume.
The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), focused on the project’s progress, funding and outstanding challenges.
Mr Boadi said completing Phase II remains a priority for President John Dramani Mahama and Sector Minister Mahama Ayariga.
He disclosed that about GH¢89 million had been generated from Phase I, which was not enough to finance the next phase as originally planned.
He explained that the initial financing plan was to use revenue from Phase I to fund subsequent phases.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the project, describing Kejetia as an important commercial centre for Kumasi and the Ashanti Region.
Traders with outstanding premium payments were urged to settle them by December 31, 2026, as the initial five-year premium period has ended.
Phase II will have four levels, more than 10,000 trading spaces, parking areas, warehouses, and other facilities.
