Two relatives have been shot dead at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra, following an alleged dispute over a GH¢500,000 debt, according to the Ghana Police Service.

The deceased have been identified as 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atuguba. They were reportedly killed at their residence on Friday, October 30, 2026.

In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations suggest that the incident was triggered by a financial disagreement involving George Atuguba, who had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from a man identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto but failed to repay the amount.

Police said the suspect visited the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment.

A misunderstanding reportedly broke out during the encounter, after which the suspect allegedly opened fire, killing George and his niece.

Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command who responded to the incident found the two victims at the residence. They were rushed to a hospital but were pronounced dead by a medical officer.

Their bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading investigations, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest the principal suspect.

Police have appealed to the public to provide information that could assist in the investigation and help bring the suspect to justice.

The incident has raised concerns about the fatal consequences of disputes over money, as investigators continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the double killing.
