The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cancelled its constituency-level elections in Amenfi East in the Western Region following challenges during the party’s nationwide internal polls.

The cancellation was among several difficulties recorded during the exercise, with some constituencies experiencing delays partly due to problems with the distribution of ballot papers.

Despite the challenges, the party says it is satisfied with the overall conduct of the elections, describing the process as an improvement over the previous exercise.

The NDC’s Acting Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Jibril, disclosed the cancellation in an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV while assessing the polls.

“I would say so far, it is an improvement from the last election. I think the party is happy with the process,” he said.

Mr Jibril acknowledged the cancellation in Amenfi East and other logistical difficulties but maintained that the exercise had generally gone well.

He said the party would review the challenges and apply the lessons learned to improve preparations for the upcoming regional elections.
