The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced planned power outages in parts of Kumasi from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, to allow engineers to complete a major transmission line upgrade.

The companies said the Anomwaso–Ahodwo (K1–K2) 161kV transmission line project has reached 70 per cent completion, with the remaining work expected to be completed by the end of November.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, October 29, GRIDCo and ECG explained that the next phase involves stringing transmission conductors on towers, an operation that requires temporary interruptions to electricity supply to protect workers and members of the public.

The planned outages will affect communities along the transmission line route between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on scheduled workdays, excluding weekends.

ECG said it would publish a detailed schedule identifying the affected communities and the corresponding dates of the interruptions to help residents and businesses prepare.

The companies acknowledged the inconvenience the outages could cause and appealed to consumers for patience and cooperation during the exercise.

They said the upgrade is expected to strengthen the transmission network and improve the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.

GRIDCo and ECG apologised for the disruption and reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project safely and on schedule.
